I have used SEM paints on my truck and they are good. DuPont also makes interior paint. Any paint you apply will wear/scratch off if you rub something against it because it is not actually part of the vinyl or plastic itself. What you want is a paint that will not "flake off" on its own - in other words, it adheres properly to the vinyl or plastic. I have a painted armrest pad on my driver's door with the SEM paint rubbed off in places because I let the seat belt snap back into the retractor on the floor when I release the belt. Anything you paint on will do this. I just take the armrest pad off once a year and respray it. If I were careful in releasing the seat belt this would not be a problem, or I could buy a factory matching color armrest at 3X the cost of the generic one I installed and painted to match. My truck is a a beater work truck so I do not need a show quality interior. Here is a pic of the armrest.

I know SEM has a vinyl dye but i didnt see anything on their site. Their flexible paint is good for plastic but if you are doing vinyl you definitely want a vinyl dye.

Re: good paint for coloring panels and detailing cab
Chipping is not the issue - it only matters if you are scraping something across the surface you painted, which you should not be doing, my seatbelt is an unusual case - I just showed it as an example of what could happen. The big issue is will the paint stick to your surface. $1 a can rattle can paint will flake off and make a mess. SEM paint is about $11 a can, but worth it. I used 3 cans for all of my interior. If you are just painting metal trim, like the headliner trim, etc., then just use cheap paint, unless your are trying to color match the whole interior. Preparation of the surface is always needed, regardless of the paint you use.
