Question about a mysterious Part on the core support?
Hello, there is a metal box with 4 or so plugs and a plug with a resistor looking thing attached to the core support on the inside driver side. Below the washer fluid container. I THINK it is wired into the headlight wire harness? Well I started my truck right now after my 454 transplant and I started smoking from the backside. I shut it off and put my finger behind it and it burned it (stupid I know) it stops smoking when the truck is off. I took it off the core support and opened it up and I do see burn marks on one of the contacts inside. How do I fix and or replace this? Thanks folks!!

Re: Question about a mysterious Part on the core support?
It is the regulator for the alternator. The best way to fix it is to replace your alternator with an internally regulated alternator and do away with the core support mounted regulator.
Edit: Here is how to do it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=119379 |
Re: Question about a mysterious Part on the core support?
I put in a alternator out of a 84 dump truck, would that have fried it?
