Fuel tank
 

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to the 67-72 truck. I currently have a '72 short bed and in the middle of a rewire using a Painless kit. So far real smooth being my first time doing something like this. My question is: will a fuel tank from a later model silverado work in our truck? And if so what will I need in order for it to work? Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks fellers!!

You just want the tank out from behind the seat? Are you going to convert to fuel injection in the future? If yes and then no, I believe you can just buy a Blazer tank and use it.

Not intending to hijack your post, but this is the subject on my mind.

I'm looking to put a tank underneath the bed. I know that Blazer tanks are good to go. But, I had a friend tell me he used one out of a Chevy van (don't know year). Then, some have used Gen 1 Camaro/Firebird tanks. There are fuel cells and custom tanks...aluminum, stainless steel and polyethelene. I'm not going to be running fuel injection, so that factor doesn't concern me at this time. At my age, I'm gonna be lucky to get it rollin' and running before I die.

So, there's the options: What are the thoughts?

I put an '85 S10 Blazer 2.8 FI tank in a '72 SWB but had to box the rail for the filler neck. I did convert to fuel injection. I guess that means you could use that style S10 Blazer tank before the 2.8 FI and it would fit.

Mark, yes I do want to remove it from the cab and relocate under the bed. My plan is to convert to 5.3l in the future so yes would like to go with fuel injection. I've seen a lot of aluminum tanks done but just don't want to go crazy and not quite in the budget right now. Gotta feed four kids...lol. Any pics would be much appreciated

Unfortunately I do not have any pics. It was a customer truck that I did a TPI conversion on. It was a tank from an '85 S10 Blazer with 2.8 TBI engine. I even pulled all the Blazer fuel lines and used them to the front where I spliced in lines to the fuel rail, the length was good. I swapped from the TBI pump to an '89 IROC Camaro TPI fuel pump. I used the straps from the Blazer. It fit nicely, but it made the filler neck be on the RH side. I had to box the rails where the neck is right there at the rail. It is all behind the axle/spring mounts so I wasn't too worried. For a non-FI application, you could use this tank and just replace the pump with a hard line and strainer until you made the swap to FI in the future. Hope this helps, sorry about no photos.

I asked and was told that the S10 Blazer tank works with leaf springs, but not with coils. On the other hand, the van tank came from a '75 Chevy and was not a problem to install. Sure, you gotta make some hanger straps, but I'm gonna see if the guy who has it will let me check it out. It's in a '68 Stepside GMC.

Blazer tanks seem to be the easyist install.
