Re: My 65

daaaamn! your taking it down to the metal. it looks like your doing well. im planing on doing this to my truck pretty soon too and im a little nervous. these kind of posts give me confidence. how difficult were the rockers and floor and cab corners. it looks like you have plenty of space to work in though, that helps. good job. keep the pics comin.

Paulie 06-22-2011 12:35 AM

Re: My 65

The cab corners aren't in place yet fitted them and it seems to fit well. My advice with the rocker and outer floor boards is to not do what I did, I wanted to get started so while my doors were out getting blasted I put the outer floor boards in and it wasn't bad took a little pounding but the fit well. The problem I ran into was the front side of the outer floorboard on the passenger side I put to far in so when I got the doors back and went to fit the rockers in they didn't fit exactly like they should of I cut some metal and extend the rocker other than that it went well

My truck was in some old primer and there is about 4 paint jobs below that so I decided to take it all the way down to at least the factory primer. Just got to get the nerve and do it don't get worked up when working on it just remember is a project and it's supposed to be fun and mainly u just need to work up the nerve to start cutting. Don't be afraid to cut your new skins or rockers to fit your application modify them.
I started this truck for a huge reason I wanna see what I can do and what I can't do I want to learn how to do so for me well I am having a great time.

Re: My 65

One other thing my rockers were totally gone they were great stuffed and fiberglass matted and that was it they were gone and so weak i kicked one of them off hehe

@WC63 if you look at the door picture when the door is open you can see what I am talking about with the outer floor board and the rocker the gap goes from where it should be i think and gets larger as it goes to the front

Re: My 65

thanks for the advice. i have some experience welding and am hoping to get better as i work on the truck. im thinking of using mostly sheet metal for my repairs. most areas dont look to complicated, but ive never done anything like this before. but i guess its like you said. just have to build up the nerve. congrats for getting started. ill be checking out the rest of your posts. good luck.

Re: My 65

Looking good so far. I'm mostly a newbie at metal and body work myself, but have been learning a lot from some friends and putting a little time in on their fab projects. Like you said, the key is to jump in and do it without fear of needing to make things work. I have damaged some parts, then been able to repair my own damage, it just builds more confidence and skill. I'll be watching your progress as well, seems you have a lot of the same rust issues as I do with my 65. Keep it up.
