Stereo for 1st Gen Blazer
 

After searching the forum and internet and coming up empty, does anyone have good install pictures of a stereo in a 1st Gen? I don't want to cut the dash or door panels so I was thinking about putting the head unit in the console and using tower speakers from a wakeboard boat as seen below or doing marine speakers in boxes. As for my budget I want a great setup, but don't want to spend a fortune doing it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I don't have pictures, but I'm going to fiberglass some kick panels for some 6.5 speakers. As for a sub.. Not sure I'm going to run one. With the motor/glasspacks and no top.. I'm not sure I will hear it that well..

I have my head unit and 6 disc changer in the console. It looks similar to this photo (but this is not mine.)

I have the exact same setup in my 72 but with a joystick control mounted over the ashtray hole so I dont have to open the console to work the radio. I also have 2 amps under the rear seat.

I agree it's definetely not ideal, but I don't want to cut any panels..

Behind that grill inbetween the roll bar tubes is a 6X9 per side. On the cheap, my dad built this back in ~71 when the single low slung dash speaker crapped out on the stock AM radio (what were they thinking back then?). The black cloth cover is just regular cotton hankerchief material spray painted black, then a SS tin perforated pattern sheet was cut to fit. All fits nicely, and you dont even really know its there. With the soft top on, I can hear it great (tho I want 4 channels so any Queen music will play 100%), but top off, side exit ahead of the rear wheels=not so much on the volume. I'd like to put kick panel pods up front down low, and add a sub/amp in the back somewhere behind the vinyl trim.

I did not want to cut my dash and left in the Am/FM radio. I did this, a marine radio solution with a "remote" on the console. I bought another seat belt console plate from another board member and cut it. I saved my original console plate. I now have a nice Sony radio in my glovebox, with CD and Ipod connectivity. With the box 6x9 speakers it sounds very nice. I even left my original radio working with the factory speaker.

BTW, I also ran a separate USB cable below so I can play music from my iPhone or Ipod. I never need to open my glovebox.

I think the tower speaker idea is awesome and I plan on doing the same thing. Most are waterproof, quick disconnectable, and loud enough you can hear them. They make some styles where the speakers are on each end of the tube facing forward and back.

That's a pretty awesome install. I am leaning towards getting 4 marine speakers and building boxes for them. How do your 6x9's sound at speed?

Thanks, it actually sounds pretty good. I like the stock look but got tired of FM only. I thought about putting in an extra amp below the seat, but the Sony player puts out good power for me. I can hear the 6x9's very nicely right behind me and if I change my mine I can go back to 100% stock. I also like the Ipod and iPhone connection right below the dash in front of me. It uses a USB connection/cable and now I have 1,000+ songs.
