76' K-10 Stepside Need Some Help?

2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys I am working on my new(to me) 76' K10 and as I fix stuff I want to make sure that it is factory correct so I am gathering info. Looking at the Id sticker I have afew ?'s

N41- Variable ratio power- this was an all time 4wd truck is that what this means?

71L -71 rosedale red soli- is this the exterior color?(trucks was repainted 5 yrs ago)
Zy1- solid color - I ask this bc the PO told me that the truck had white srtriping on it originally but he couldnt remeber what it looked like, was wondering if it was a factory sport

D73- PU box side rail- what did these look like

9G4- Stepside promotion- What does this mean(sport?) I ask bc it also list E62 as stepside box so what does promotional mean?

This is a Scottsdale 350/350 all time 4wd truck.

Any info appreciated. I will look all of this up if someone can direct me to the right place, thanks wiggins

Post a pic of the trim tag and we can see what we can figure out.

Take a look at the link below or search Chevy Sport in the search window . There are several threads on them . Looks like the 78 and later trucks had a different option code than the earlier ones . 80SPORT could tell you what you have for sure .

with a quick search N41 has to do with steering so I assume variable ratio box but it could be something else

71L is the exterior color it is the same as my 76 in pic

You have one of the few surviving Chevy Sports from 1976....

The color is correct;the 9G4 was the Chevy Sport package.

It required Scottsdale equipment, stepside box and was available in 2wd or 4wd.

The N41 is variable ratio power steering.

The orange truck is my original paint/stripe unit ...with the box rails

That's a nice find there wiggins. Nice to see another piece of American history will be preserved. Maybe start a progress thread.

Nice!! Beautiful truck, I love it just like it is but I'd kind of like to see it go back to original Sport trim also.

Just wondering, was the big barefoot gas pedal part of the Sport package? ;> That is so 1976.

Hey man thanks this is great info. Would you believe that I just picked up an original 76' grill with no cracks ect(hopefully) on ebay for $32!
Love your truck by the way would you happen to have an extra set of thoose bed rails laying around? The PO owner told me the truck was more maroon w white stripping but his wife had the truck cleaned up for him on its 30th aniv and he decided to go with red so the colors in the pics above make since plus it looks like good ol AGGIE colors!
Alos getting ready to put some original Rally rims back on the truck so the ones in the pics will be for sale if anyone could use them.

Its too clean to really mess w right now besides I have about a gazillion other trucks that need far more attention. Right now I am basically fixing whats broke or is wore out or faded ect and collecting up original parts so one day when I go thru it I'll have what I need. would be a short thread for now.

You like the foot huh, lol! This truck was totally 70's when I got it. It had the back window covered in that black plastic louvered looking cover, it had a diamond pleated and paneling looking headache rack for a CB and 2 additional speakers. The foot I kind of like though. I am really into restoring things back original but on some cars I dont mind leaving period correct aftermarket stuff. I also like the chrome roll bar on these trucks

Re: 76' K-10 Stepside Need Some Help?

I have a few questions and some parts needs on this truck:
Questions?
-any woodgrain in the interior on a Scotsdale package?
-steering wheel wrap, is it original?
-Got a grill off ebay and the emblem is molded into the grill w an aluminum insert for the bowtie. So was there more than one type grill in 76' or is this it? I was expecting to be able to remove the old emblem and replace it with a new one. LMC list a yellow bowtie for 75-79.

Parts wanted:
Correct side mirrors for a 76
those ugly woodgrain bedside rails

Re: 76' K-10 Stepside Need Some Help?

-The door panels are not correct for your truck. Those look like Silverado/Cheyenne door panels (or knockoffs of them). IIRC, there is no trim on the Scottsdale trim panels. I haven't had one in over 20 years, so my memory is a little fuzzy, but that sounds right. Trim panels should be the same as the base model trucks in '76.

-Steering wheel wrap is not original.

-There were two grilles in '76. The Silverado/Cheyenne packages had horizontal chrome strips and a removable bow tie, where the base models did not.

According to the sales brocures, the '76 Scottsdale has inserts on the door panels, very similar to my '74 Custom Deluxe. http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?1976

I just picked this one up a few days ago and didn't really know much about it. While searching for stripe packages to see if i could find out if it was factory since everything is quite original i stumbled across this and some other threads about these old sport rigs. Anyway it's a k10 with a 400 and its quite straight and rust free overall, you can tell that it was well taken care of and maintained.
