where to find the right oil dipstick tube
1 Attachment(s)
My oil dipstick tube is broken off at the block. I ordered the replacement tube and dipstick from LMC but it is not the same as the original. Its about 2 1/2 inches shorter. The LMC dipstick is also shorter so it would measure the oil level correctly, but I don't like the look of it. I was hoping to use my original dipstick and replace the tube, but I'm having a hell of a time locating a replacement. Does anybody know where I can get a tube that will match my dipstick? I tried searching GM parts direct, but had no luck. They don't seem to have much for our trucks. Any help will be much appreciated. Here's a picture of the original and the LMC:

I haven't tried the junkyards yet. I was hoping someone might know where to get a NOS or GM part. If no one has any leads, the junkyards may be my only choice or I'll use the China-made one.
I have the top of the dipstick wire-tied to the brake line right now to hold it in place and don't seem to be losing any oil. I've read some posts on here that people get oil sloshing out of the opening. I don't think I'm having that problem. |

What about having the bottom piece of the new one cut off and welded or braised onto your original?

I'm having the same problem. I bought a Mr Gasket chrome one and hate it. I stumbled upon factory ones in the local yards but really don't like the look. So I might have to bite the bullet and get a Lokar billet one, they are so pricey though.

http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/a...mk1/oil001.jpgOK, so I ran down to my garage and I have two older dipsticks the top one is off my 1970 350 (think thats what you need) I'm running a newer block so my dipstick is on the passenger side, hence no need for it. If its right you can have it. I live in Scranton Pa. (about 2 hours away) but if you need I could mail it to you. Shoot me a message.

Re: where to find the right oil dipstick tube
Last time I built a motor I bought a brand new factory one at the local chevy parts counter. It comes with a tube and stick so the measurement is accurate and the best part
IT FITS!!!!!!!!!!!! They do still have them at most dealers |
