Dash top question
Were the tops of dashboards ever trimmed with vinyl? My 67 has the area between the dash pad and the screen covered in (peeling) vinyl and I want to know if this is original or has been done some time later in its life. If it is not original when I peel it off I presume it should be the same satin black as the dash, is this right? It is a very basic trimmed truck, no headliner, no chrome trim.

I removed my black dash pad and covered the top of dash with black crinkle finish vinyl ( kinda pebble grained -like a football!). I trimmed the plastic for a close fit along the winshield and extended the new vinyle so that it would be covered when the dash pad was re-installed....I used a coat of contact cement on the metal dash top and a coat of cement on the vinyl. Then cut out the holes for the defroster vents that I had previously removed. Re-installed the dash pad and defroster vents.
Did all this about 10 yrs ago....and no problems.......Jim |
No, they did not come with any covering stock. They were all painted flat color, normally body color.
