76 chevy full size driveline question
hey guys
i just joined and i was wondering if you could help me out. i have a 1976 chevy 3/4 ton pickup and im gonna lift it. i was just wonderin if i go with a 6 inch kit from skyjacker will i have to get different drivelines? thanks. |
Re: 76 chevy full size driveline question
well i have a 4 inch lift and my rear driveline is like right on end im getting a new one soon so i say you would have to get new drive lines, 4 inch is about the biggest you can "get by" with but even then its iffy that you might ruin splines on the output shaft,

What tranny and t case you got?

Re: 76 chevy full size driveline question
I did a 4" lift on my 1/2 ton and that stretched the driveshafts to the max, I was told previously that a 6" lift would force me to get new driveshafts and I believe it now.

Re: 76 chevy full size driveline question
my truck has a th350 with a 203 t case i believe that makes a difference........ doesnt it?

Re: 76 chevy full size driveline question
Maybe, but not in a good way. The NP203 is longer than the others, so it makes the driveshaft shorter from the start. A shorter shaft makes for more of an angular change. This makes it more likely that your existing shaft will be too short.
The front is probably going to need work either way. |
Re: 76 chevy full size driveline question
No with a four inch the driveline will work, that is if you feel comfortable with a 1/2 in to an inch left on your outputshaft,(usually you have like 3 inches in there) go for it,
but dont start crying when you drop a line on the freeway/offroad and ruin your line and or exhaust/tank/bed/wires, and possibly ruin your tail shaft gears ,,its made to be a certain length, , i'm playing this driveline game right now, , all im saying is that with my 208 tranfercase it worked (still had like almost two inches) but now with this new tranny and 205 it wont, with the 208 you could probably use a burban driveline for a longbed truck, but with my 205 it is on end, if you do your lift put the driveline in (if it fits) and then push up and down on the line by the transfercase, if it moves excessively and you can hear a (click, click, click) then its too short, get a longer on, , , it will work ..... sorta.... but who knows how long |
