Transmission Problems, Help!

Hey Guys, I was Motoring down the Road and my trans. just stopped working. I can move the Column selector through all the gears and it won,t grab any of them. I have a 86 custom Deluxe, 305 v8 engine with a 3 speed auto. It almost feels like the linkage, but it appears to be hooked up. any info to keep me out of the Trans. shop would be greatly Apprec. Thanks Much!

Have you checked the fluid, does it smell burnt? You can get under it (without running of course) and check the linkage to see if it is working. You could drop the pan and see if there is a lot of clutch material in it. If so it probably will need replacing. Tranny's very seldom just go out without some worning.
