Radiators
I have just been around to a couple of rad & parts shops. I can't believe the cost of a new, or rebuilt radiator. 500.00 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody have any suggestions for a radiator, or know of any good deals. I have a 65 C10 with a 230ci 6 cyl. I saw in one of the catalogs that a 292 rad was cheaper, but was not sure of the inlet/outlet orientation. I have an upper left inlet and lower right outlet. I am in Canada, around Montreal. I could have something shipped to Texas tho and then shipped to me. thanks in advance Ken |

Are you aware of the 2 different rads for the six. Light duty one is 18" wide and sits closer to the motor. Heavy duty ones are about 24" wide and are tight to the rad support. Brackets are different to mount them. Most places only have the wider one. Narrow one is available from LMC.
Wider aluminum and cheaper ones are available on ebay. |

Found this on Fleabay. One of the shops that I checked today was quoting me 450.00 for the same radiator.

I was in a pinch and had to get the truck going, Autozone had one for 200 bucks and it's working great.

Kieth :gmc2: there are 2 cradles with rubber liners on the bottom of the radiator the slots in the bottom of the radiator did not line up with the original holes in the bracket so we simply drilled 2 holes in the support bracket that lined up with the slots in the new HD radiator (original 6 cyclinder now a 350) There is a bracket that holds the radiator in place on the top, it also attached to the front radiator support bracket. We had to remove the metal bracket that had 2 rubber bumpers and move those so they lined up with the top of the radiator also. No big deal ... |

I bought a new 3-row Modine, which a direct replacement for a 64-66 with 283 V8, for $240 from a local radiator shop. This was 5-6 years ago.
As described above, the wider V8 radiator sits on top of the frame rails, as opposed to the I6 radiator which drops down between the frame rails, so you need to find a used V8 upper radiator bracket, or else fabricate something. |

Here's a photo of the Modine radiator, and the stock V8 upper radiator mounting bracket. That bracket is not currently reproduced, as far as I know, and used ones can be a bit hard to find. I got lucky and found one in the swap meet at a Super Chevy event a few years ago.

My upper radiator bracket looks just like that, we had to relocate the 2 upper brkts that hold the rubber so they aligned with the v8 3 core radiator from Rock Auto.
