Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
it would prob be cheaper to get new
i think some aftermarket company makes them now not hard to replace just clips inside the door really one for the lock to the door and one for the rod |
Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
Are all the locks from the same year truck? Because GM used different key ways. OEM GM and most aftermarket copies keys are stamped with a letter designating the keyway. A/B- C/D- E/H- J/K. Now if you just lost your key for your doors you can just take one door lock down to your local Locksmith and have a new key made to it. Briggs and Stratton ( now Strat-Tec) made these OEM replacements and you can actually order thru a dealer or Lockshop,Un Coded and Un Restricted keyway locks meaning the Keyway will accept all the GM single sided keyways and you can get them rekeyed to your Ing. key so you only have one key for everything. This set up is for Fleet type keying of vehicles. I use to charge 10 bucks to combinate GM locks. I personally like the one key setup. If your door locks came from different year trucks you will most likely have different keyways and you will end up with different keys for your doors.

Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
LMC sells new lock cylinders. Pretty simple to replace, but I believe you still have to have them rekeyed by a locksmith anyway?

Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
I bought a set of new door locks and ignition for my truck (one key fits all three) for under $30 from Chevy Duty or whatever they are called now (Classic Industries?). Maybe they have them for the Suburban?

Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
I paid 30-35 to re-key the back glass/tailgate lock on my S-10 Blazer from a local place. It's bigger local place, so you might be able to find a little cheaper.

Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
I lost the key to my '60 suburban, brought a local key shop my ignition lock cylinder and they made me two duplicate keys for about 3 bucks each and called me less than an hour later.

Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
find some old lock cylinders at the JY and grab the pins, grab a couple sets of keys or blank keys, get out the files and key them yourself!

To rekey the door locks you need to pry off the bezel (gm dealer, or a locksmith will have new ones, the tabs usually break off), flapper door, slip out the cylinder and place correct wafer in appropriate posistion, slip cylinder back into housing, put on new bezel, tap over the tabs and viola. Re: rekey lock cylinders, possible?
Just noticed, and can't edit any longer, I stuck in the BMW wafers, GM uses an L shaped wafer, but it works on the same principle.
