Need some Exhaust advice.
I have an 86 GMC Suburban with a carbureted 350. It has stainless headers, and it came with a factory SS true-dual isolated exhaust.
Well it finally died last week. It got a hole in the muffler after 25 years. I had the shop replace everything from the headers back with 2.5" 14 gauge alumanized pipes and some 50 series delta flow Flowmasters. Anyway, though it sounds great, it's a little loud. I made sure the shop left some straight long sections before the mufflers so I could add resonators to calm it down. I'm thinking about using a couple Hushpower II Hp-2 shortys to help things out in the noise department. Also, will a H-pipe help much for sound quality? How did you guys manage to route it on a 4WD truck? Thanks for your advice and opinions. |
Re: Need some Exhaust advice.
An H-pipe will not help a whole lot in making it quieter. It will tame things just a bit, but I'm not sure it will be a noticeable amount in the noise department. It will balance the pressure between the banks though. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have one installed. Just might not have the effect you are looking for.

Re: Need some Exhaust advice.
That's what I thought. I don't think it will help much. I'm more curious if the sound changes much... since my pipes are routed out behind the wheels, I wonder if the sound would be more balanced and less choppy.

Okay,
So I installed a single the Hushpower II shorty. Big difference. You can really hear it between the two sides of the vehicle. Great resonator. The sound also got even deeper. |
