Well..........It won't be the easiest swap but it can be done. What year is the engine? It would be impressive opening your hood expecting to see a 350 and there sits the 472!

I wouldn't want to have to feed them! It's your truck-would be impressive but a lot of work

Caddys make great truck engines. I think it'll be cool.

Just Google the subject matter, and think you'll be surprised at how many hits come back on putting these engines in Chevy/GMC trucks. I seem to recall that there were some members on this site doing it.

I know there is a member with a caddy 500 on here, so I'm sure a 472 would fit. The biggest issues IMO would be getting headers and exhaust to fit. There should be enough hood clearance, and fuel/wiring etc would be no more complicated than any other carbed v8. I say do it, just because.

Do it! I just saw a '65 panel the other day that had a 500 caddy in it. These engine compartments are so big, it'll be fine. I think the 472 is the same dimensions as the 500, no?

Anyway, I say yes!:metal:

I bought a 73 Caddy from the original owner and it had 149,000 miles on it and the car was really clean. I paid him $500 for it. I was going to take the engine out and use it in my 65 but I just could not get myself to destroy that car. It drove like it was on rails and with the temp control in the cabin it was heaven. I sold it a few months later.

I have a 472 in my 64 gmc.
they had to cut the firewall to clear the valve covers, and they had to notch the crossmember to clear the oil pan... other than that it fits in nice.

Could you mod the oil pan and raise the motor mounts rather than notch the crossmember?

I think it would be sweet. I think there are a few Caddy 500's on this board.

If you go to the link I provided. You can get a rear sump oil pan and pickup so you can put these engine in these trucks. And here is another one. http://www.500cid.com/ They say if you put a set of Aluminum Heads on a caddy engine, it will weight the same as a 350 SBC

Rear sump oil pans. Not cheap though http://www.cad500parts.com/catalog/page23.htm

Hey guys thank you for your thoughts and all. But I'm all about throwing this monster in there. I am going to put aluminum heads on there so cause of weight. But the thought has crossed my mind of blowing the 472 and running cut outs and some other Lil things hahahaha can't wait to get back to Michigan
