High back bucket seat demand??
I looked at a truck today with what looks like factory hi back bucket seats and newer style center console. 79-80 i am guessing. Question is, is there much demand for high backs? I know the low backs sell decent. Any idea on value of a fair condition set? I will add some pics later. I just need to know if they would be worth getting to re-sell.
Thanks. |
Re: High back bucket seat demand??
I took a set out of my 79 k5 and replaced with newer buckets from a suburban. I have not even been able to give my old ones away, but they are in pretty sad shape, vinyl not cloth.

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
high backs bring less than low backs, and seem to be harder to get rid of...at least for me. I'd grab the brackets (if factory), console, and leave he seats there. Just my opinion.
That is an 81+ truck, not 79-80. You can tell by the dash pad, console, cab trim and wipers. |

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
X2. I have sets of both and I prefer the low back much better! Plus they don't rub the back of the cab like the high backs do. If you can get them for a good price, snag them up for ****s and giggles

That tag would/should be in the glove box

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
I would be interested in the brakets if you do get them. I have a 85 4x4 I'm restoring and looking to put buckets in it. This would save me some trouble as there are no bucket seat 4x4's around here in the yeards for parts.

Sarge, not sure if it would be worth my time and money to get the brackets themselves. |
Re: High back bucket seat demand??
That cab is a 81-87 cab with the hood hinges in the cowl and look at the door panels. seat belts and the cab back trim. That's why the glove box parts label is all option numbers with no description and most likely a 87 cab if that glove box label is correct for the cab. But the seats themselves are late 77 to 80 style seats. I always liked them myself as they fit the big truck cab very nicely. I still think they are $150 for the set with the brackets. I would have loved to found those back when I restored my 80 GMC Indy Hauler pickup. Mark

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
Good info mark. So you are saying the seats are not correct for the truck? How about the console? I looked under the pass side seat and the brackets looked like the correct ones from what i can tell. Also, the inboard seat belts had the plastic cover that went to the floor. The dash emblem had scottsdale in it. Looked like a 14 bolt laying in the rear and the 4x4 front was MIA. I wish they weren't so expensive to ship... that always kills deals like this...

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
Like I said if you do decide to pick them up I would beinterested in the brackets. If you have to take the whole seat I guess shipping them on a greyhound would be best.
Keep me in mind if it still picks at ya. Thanks, Sarge |
Re: High back bucket seat demand??
Personally if I were to pull my bench I would want high-back seats.

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
Eric That cab is absolutely a 81-87 cab with the cowl panel, dash etc. I don't remember what year they quit offering the bucket seat option which is code A50, but I don't think it went much if at all into 81 or 82. And if it is the Z62 Scottsdale I'm sure they didn't offer the high back buckets with the lower trim level. The console looks like a late 80's style from a Suburban or a Blazer. The seats and upholstery look to be the 78-80 era Cheyenne or Silverado style seats. I bet if you look at the welded tab on the front inner brackets it will be a non factory spot weld. Still i think the HB buckets are worth having around. Mark

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
82 was the last year for factory buckets

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
This is all good info... I noticed the truck had turn signals in the bumper and looks like factory cab lights. Also has carpet behind the seats and the inner front pass side bracket looks factory welded to the floor. I looked in the glove box again and there is no code info in there. Just some wheelbase info or something. I may try to grab these. I did get the console already and that appears factory with a lift bracket under it as well.
If it matters, it looks like it was a 3/4 or one ton, 4x4 with a 4 speed. |
Re: High back bucket seat demand??
Like I said if I need to buy the seats as well I am sure we can work something out.

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
Eric, that would have to be a 81-82 truck then, if it had it's original front bumper with turn signal lights. It was the only year that had that bumper. Trevor

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
The inner seat belts should have some sort of plastic sleeve to stand them up between the seat and the console. Then the seat belt date code would be 81/82. I suppose the right type of special order with the area factory rep's sign off could get carpet and buckets into a Scottsdale model but that would be a rare truck cab. I have never seen one like that if it is a factory equipped 81-87. That upholstery looks factory and it is not something less than Cheyenne or Silverado upholstery for those years. I would snag the buckets and the seat belts if the stands are good too.

Well, i was going to get the seats today until it rained a bunch. I grabbed the 4 speed tilt and was soaked and left. I got some more pics however. I would say this is an 81 according to the seat belts. It also looks correct as far as i can tell. Had hydroboost? behind the master cylinder? Fairly odd optioned truck i think. Hopefully the parts are still there next time i get out there...
I heard we got close to 4" of rain today. kinda took the fun out of it. |
Re: High back bucket seat demand??
get me those seat belt buckles/holder that go by the console (not retractors), I will pay you $$ for those

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
If I were in Minnesota, I would be having another set of high back buckets sitting in my garage gathering dust like the other ones....... Nice find and I hope they are still there for you when you go back. I could have used that 4 spd tilt column myself

Re: High back bucket seat demand??
Well, i made it back and the seats were still there, but the truck was closer to the crusher. I would say these are factory for that truck. They (GM) must have changed the rear brackets at some point for the seatbelts. I grabbed the seats, brackets, belts, cablights and the hydroboost off it. The remains are gone by now i am sure. The hydroboost i grabbed because it is uncommon. Is there any demand or value for those?
I will post a pic of the seat brackets later. Eric |
Re: High back bucket seat demand??
I sent you a pm, let's deal on all the seats, belts, and hardware. Also the column.
