Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
Today on the list was the PS pump which after 35 years had seen better days. I got the new AC Delco pump/reservoir assembly from rockauto. I got a loaner tool for the pulley remover/installer from autozone, pulled the parts, cleaned and painted with hi-temp engine paint...turned out great IMO.
Thats all I accomplished today but it is a step in the right direction. heres some before and after pics. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...Sierra/ps3.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...Sierra/ps2.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...Sierra/ps5.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...Sierra/ps1.jpg |
Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
With the help of some great friends, the 454/400 has a new home. I am closer to getting it running. I'll work on cleaning up the wiring and start plumbing this week. With a broke leg, I am moving a little slow on this build.

Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
Didnt get anything done with the truck this weekend because I spent my spare time on the Cutlass. I removed the old spindles, rotors, and calipers. They were 2" drop spindles that were a bad combo with a big block and headers. The whole disc brake setup up front was all a part of a drum-to-disc conversion kit from Jegs, and it sucked to say the least. So the good ole Cutlass got stock spindles, new caliper brackets & backing plates. As well as new rotors, pads, and Wilwood dual piston calipers powdercoated in red. Next I need to bleed the system and then break em in ;)

Finished with my 454 radiator install.

Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
I removed the 355/TH350 from my parts truck and transported it to the house where the work on it will be completed.Going to add new seals and gaskets to the TH350 and freshen up the 355 since both have been sitting in the parts truck for 5 years and need it in the worst kind of way.Once all of that is done then they go into Ol Red and then i will have a good motor and trans in a good pickup.

Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
Finished the brake system on the 50, bent and flared the lines, bled the system. Now I can work towards making the truck move under it's own power.

Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
Kept chasing down a phantom brake light/turn signal issue. Looked at the trailer project I'd bought, wishing I had the few hours I need to get it going so I don't have to work out of the back of the K5, worked out of the back of the K5.

Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
Friday night I removed my plugged cat and fabbed up a pseudo-exhaust system until I can build another one. Dual exhaust FTW!
Saturday celebrated my son's 19th birthday with a cook out. Sunday, dozed on the couch until 2000, when the dimwits at work screwed up enough to force me in to fix a problem. 0300 , finally got back home to to sleep to be back at work at 0800:devil: |
Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
I killed the 454 in my dually. Main bearings were ugly. Motor is out & @ the machine shop for clean-up plus some mild upgrades.

Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
Scored some free small block parts (headers, brackets, etc) and went to the Sturgis Falls Car Show where I got to see fellow member ProStreet83's truck along with a great many other beautiful vehicles.

Re: What did you get done 6/24/11 edition
Replaced the driver's side lower ball joint this afternoon, gotta love lifetime warranty parts. Waiting on the other, will be in on Wednesday. The truck is going in the shop next week for the control arm shafts, all four of 'em. I worked on the truck a LOT over the past week though: cleaned and rebuilt the carburetor, new plugs and wires, new primary and secondary fuel filters, changed the oil and filter, greased front end, cleaned the truck cab(very rare!), checked the gear oil in the tranny/rear diff., checked driveline and tires.
