RPO code YH4 - Gold Medal Special

I was looking at the RPO code list tonight on my '86 GMC 2wd short box and noticed this code: YH4 - Gold Medal Special. I looked at several RPO decoder sites online and none of them reference this code, and it's the only RPO code on my build list that doesn't show up on these sites. The original paint code was 55U Canyon Copper Metallic so I'm pretty sure it's not a secondary paint code.

Does anyone know what this code could be?

Still hoping someone can provide details on the YH4 - Gold Medal Special paint code. Anyone?

I can say for sure that YH4 is not a paint code. I do not know what it is/was. It's not listed in my GM catalog, and I've never seen something not listed before.

Re: RPO code YH4 - Gold Medal Special

A while ago on ebay there was a fella selling a bunch of NOS GM emblems from the 80's. He had a bunch of Chevy truck fender badges and dash emblems that were gold rather than the usual brushed/silver finish. IIRC, some had black painted edges and some had red painted edges. I thought about buying some just because I had never seen anything like that before. I'm now guessing those emblems were a part of the YH4 option.

YH4 would be an option package ....the 1976 olympic editions were ZE2

Usually it designated specific color and stripe package ....

GM often used various RPOs for marketing packages/special editions ...they would send out a sheet to the dealers and it would offer a "Special Edition" with certain mandatory options for a package price.

This is correct.

I have been watching this thread but hadn't responded yet because all of my old option books are back at my office at the Tech Center (I've been in the assembly plant every day).

Next time I'm there I'll check to see if they show this RPO. But - it was pretty typical to pull an RPO and assign colors, stripes or decor against it for a special occasion (like the Olympics, or Bi-centennial, or Indy Pace cars, or whatever).

I checked the GM Information Kit for '86 pickups, located in the GM Heritage Center, and there was no mention of YH4.

So -I'm guessing it was a late add.

I just picked up a nice 86 Sierra Classic K2500 with the Gold Medal option package......it seems it appeared during the 1984 Olympics and was so popular they kept on for a couple of years. What is it?...... the truck is loaded with every available option including cruise control, intermittent wipers power windows and locks , gauges, 2 tone paint, stereo, power steer and brakes, clock, tint, auto trans and AC.........this one also has 4:10 gears and a locker. This thing is nice with 79k on it......a survivor here in AZ with not a spec of rust. Here is the ad for the package from Flowers GMC in Galveston.

YH4 is a generic RPO for a seasonal promotional package. They are not locked down and are reused, so there is really no way to know at this point what it was referencing back then.

I got it from you in one of your responses in another post about this few years ago. Glad you're around to give me proper sounding verbiage. :smoke:.
