V-8 Conversion for 1987 S-10
 
Hey guys I need to know how my 283 with th350 will fit into my 1987 chevy 2wd shortbox standard cab 1.9L Cyl S-10. What do I need to do and don I need a different drive shaft or rearend. I am gonna order a book but wanna know what I am dealin with first. Thanks

WallySac,

The 283 will fit good in the engine bay. You'll have trouble if you install headers. The rearend should hold up. You may want to go posi to hold the truck down. Why not use a 700R4? The OD would be awsome in the truck. I'm not sure on the drive shaft. If its not an auto then you may need to find and auto trany shaft.

You can get headers for it. I have seen two different styles. One that wraps around the steering column and ones that look like manifolds. The one that look like manifolds were custom made and he said that it didnt cost too much. When install the headers that wrap around the steering column, you have to disassemble it to install them. I am not sure if you are going to have to alter your driveshaft, only know when using the camaro 5spd. It is all possible. As for the rear I responded to your other post, and I agree with getting a posi. The short beds are lighter and tend to have some wheel hop. My one freind had one with a 350 and camaro 5spd, Ford 9" Narrowed with 4.11 gears and Detroit Locker.
