Quick question about the price of a 6.0ltr take out

Hey all,

I've been keeping a eye out for a 6.0 to do a swap into my '84 K10. I've found one that came out of a chevy 2500 HD at 80,000 miles. It is the complete setup....motor, computer, wiring harness, accessories, fuel system, manifolds.....etc, the entire setup ready to drop in.

I think I can get it for $1500. Is this a fair price?
Any quick replies would be appreciated.

If you can get it for that price you'd better snag it quickly!!! I paid more for my original take-out '08 6.0L LY6 - it had only 3,800 miles on it, but didn't come with the ECM or pedal assembly... Ended up not using it though & went with a new Mast Motorsports version so it would have the internal upgrades I wanted.

Thats certainly fair. That seems to be the going rate for just the motor. $1500 seems to be the going rate for a 5.3 thats complete with wiring and computer. The 6.0's are a little more expensive. So yea, pick it up!

I checked and it does not have the pedal assembly.

Still a good deal, but you will need the correct pedal for that particular application.

What year engine is it. I personally would never buy a engine from a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, You dont know what kind of abuse they were put through.

the only half ton trucks to get the 6.0 was the silverado ss, sierra denali and yukon denali. other than that its 3/4 ton or 1 ton.

Yep, that's right.....when you order them over the phone or online you have no idea of what it's coming out of do you?? You dont get to pick, as far as I know. The places I've seen only give you a mileage.

Anyway, he's gonna hold it for me till monday, then I'm gonna meet him and pick it up. I realize it's just a gamble buying it from an individual. There really isn't anything I can check or look at until I get it back home and have some time with it.

I say go with it. Don't sound like a half bad deal and it doesn't have a ton of miles on it yet. Let us know how it all goes. I have been wanting to do that swap for awhile :D Just don't have the funds lol!

Honestly there's no real telling if a truck was abused based solely on its tonnage.

Vortec max's, GMC VHOs, and C3s also got 6.0s so there are a few options for half tons.

None of those are LQ4s There LQ9s, If your going to buy a 6.0L for a "hot rod project"...Buy a LQ9.

Ive never seen a Siverado SS or Cadillac Escalade pulling a skid steer down the freeway doing 90 or pulling 40,000 pounds of hay bales down the sevice road....But I have seen alot of 2500HDs & 3500 doing it.

I somehow don't think that's because they have LQ9's, lol.

How invasive of a swap is this? Are significant frame/sheetmetal modifications required for an LSx/4L60E swap, or is it pretty much plug and play with all of the components?

LQ9s have higher horsepower, Better heads & only put in luxury$$$ light duty trucks with 4L60E/4L65E transmissions that will blow long before the engine is over worked.

LQ4s are put in heavy duty trucks with a 4L80E/4L85E....What moron would buy a H/D truck & not put it to work?

I would buy the "rich soccer mom" engine, Not a "leased company truck" engine. Its just MY opinion.

That was my point. You see HD's pullimg big loads because that's what people buy them for, and you don't see luxury cars hauling big loads (most of the time) because that's not what people buy them for.

Don't see many 2500 and 3500s with bad tunes and a 200 shot on them either. Again, you're a lot better off looking at mileage than applicatin unless you're looking for a particular engine (LQ4, LQ9, etc...) Even then your taking a risk.
