1992 gmc rocker panel patch question

I installing new cab corners and need to install a partial rocker panel on one side. I cut out the bad portion of the rocker and ready to fit the new patch panel in. My questions are

1. should I install the whole section of rocker even though the rest of it is clean.
2. how to I fit the new piece in? I'm guessing a butt joint on each end?
3. do I just spot weld it back in like the factory was?
thanks, Mark

Re: 1992 gmc rocker panel patch question

I would replace the whole rocker and clean up the rust along the bottom of the inner rocker. Weld thru primer is a good idea in there, as well.
Plug weld at the same locations as the factory spot welds.
