Door checks

I'm just curious to see if anyone has ever had any problems knocking out the pin that secures the door check rod in the doorjamb. My passenger side door check fell apart, so I went to drive the pin out. I gave a few good whacks and it didn't budge. I stopped because I thought that there may be a better way to do it with possibly bending something.

Any tricks/tips/suggestions?

I've had good luck hitting them with a punch. They usually fight a little bit and then come out. I haven't heard of any special tricks.

SFTorange-
Thanks, that's good to know. I'll probably give them a little spray of WD40 and let them sit for a few then try it. I just didn't want to bend anything up, so I stopped.

BTW, I'm going to PayPal you about those mounts later on today after I get back from the Brothers truck show.

Don't use WD it's not a lubricant...use penetrating oil and wait overnight if you can or at least a couple of hours.

If you have room to manage all the pieces, you might be able to “press” the pin out using a suitable size bolt or dowel pin, socket, and small C clamp. This way you wouldn’t risk bending the jamb bracket.

all that i did on mine was a dremel with a small grinding bit just to take the lip off then tap it out.

good luck!
