Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
Probably a NP 208 if it came with a 700r4. I don't think our K5's came with 205s in that year. I have an '86 with a 700r4 and my t-case is the NP 208.

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
the guy told me he scarpped the 700r4 and and transfer case and he got the trans and case out of a older model chevy 4x4 but he forgot what model. the stock shift pattern on the console in the blazer is NOTHING like the shift pattern for the transfercase

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
What does it look like then? Usually they have a tag saying what it is on the back too, unless it has been taken off.

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
nope chevccked for tags before i bought it. nothing there

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
i checked the speedometer cable is on driver side like always. its got a side panel that 4 bolts hold on going to take it off and look inside see if its chain driven or gear driven

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
If it is cast iron, its a 203 (chain drive) or a 205 (Gear to Gear). This is a picture of a 205. Notice the small round cover with 3 bolts in the middle, its an idler shaft cover, the 203 doesnt have it.

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
i think its a 203 where the idle shaft cover is there a drain plug. so iam going with a 203 iam i right?

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
Most likely. The turbo 350 is more common to have a 203 behind it because it was offered that way for a long time. It was also available with the 205 but is a little harder to find.

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE

|
Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
Watch for 1980 models, every 4x4 had the 205

Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
any helpful tips after i get my 205? anything i need to know installing it?
|
Re: need help identifying my transfer case PLZE
try to get the turbo 350 and adapter with it that came with the 205, I am not sure if the output/inputs are the same length or the same spline between the 203/205. Your crossmember is the same but be sure to check out the rear out put on the TC as some were bolt on yokes and some were slip yoke.
