Air Cond Question??
 

I had a guy working on my 1990 vehicle at my house and he disconnected the hose going to the compressor for whatever reason? I heard a loud pop and saw steam rising. I asked what he did and he said he had to disconnect the hose because it was in the way. I dont want him working on my car any more so i will finish the job. The air was working great before this. Question: what do i have to do to get it working again? Just charge the system or is there more? Thanks

WOW........ I'd replace any seals associated with the hose removal, Then the system needs to be evacuated (vacuum pulled) then re-charged. Then there's the amount of oil he lost from the system during the process, Also..... Don't put the re-charge off too long since moisture got into the system, This isn't good on the drier.

I agree with what RR posted. Most A/C guys will tell you that the drier must be replaced if the system was opened after it was charged.

This guy did not know what he was doing! You do not pull a hose like that. If you have to pull an A/C hose you do it slowly so you only lose gas not oil, and liquid like Rob mentioned. Your dryer is probably ok, but I would do like has been said immediately replace the seals on that hose and hook it back up. Then replace the orifice tube (little filter looking thing) and take it to someone that can evacuate it and re-charge it and replace some of the oil that was lost.

Ya this really pissed me off. He didnt ask to remove the hose, he just did it. This car uses R12 so i will probably have a time trying to find someone to do it. I dont want to convert to R134. I heard freeze12 works good? Anyone know about that stuff? A dryer isnt too expensive.

Some here may argue about this, but I've been running 134 in 12 systems for years with no problems. It doesn't get as cold but works fine.
