Severe wheel hop with new locker
I just finished a trans swap in my 70 3/4 ton and while I was at it I installed a detroit locker. Before the locker I could punch it, spin both most of the time, and not have any issues with wheel hop. Now when I do, it will hop extremely bad. Any clue as to why it's changed so much??
Here are the specs incase you need them: 3/4 ton with factory suspension 4L80E trans w/4000rpm stall 355 SB w/413HP HO72 w/4.10s and locker Weight is 3860lbs LWB 32" street tires This is my street/strip pickup and I am trying to get everything in oder to take it to the strip. This week I am getting new tires, but I would like advice on which shocks to get. Its about 80/20 street/strip. Thanks, Thomas |
Re: Severe wheel hop with new locker
You said you just did a tranny swap from what to the 4l80e? Were your burnouts fine with the other trans and the locker or did you just do both at the same time. Can I ask why you went with a 4000 stall convertor on a motor making just 413HP?

Re: Severe wheel hop with new locker
Had a TH350 before and an open diff. They had no issues other than the trans having some bad slippage.
I bought the trans and converter together for a good deal and I am going to have an upgraded power plant going in that will put about 430+HP to the wheel with shift points at or near the 7,000 mark. So with the new set up the 4000 stall will work well. Thomas |

And with the old set up both tires would spin most of the time. There were not many one tire friers.

I'm still in debate about the shocks. Just got some Proxes tires ordered today. I've seen alot about Afco, any other ideas? Thomas |
Re: Severe wheel hop with new locker
"Factory Suspension" does not tell us whether it is leaf or coil.....it makes a difference.

I just installed the new tires and shocks last night. I am running the Proxes ST II's and KYB shocks in all 4 corners. I am going to let them break in before doing any really hard launches, but it deffinitely hooks way better! Thomas |
