ok tired of looking!?

I'm trying to find out if or what the width difference is between a 2wd 14b ff and a 4x4 14b ff? I'm looking for a 14b ff for my truck and I keep finding 2wd trucks and axles but not many 4x4 trucks. And I would like to know if the 2wd is the same width or not? Thanx ahead if someone can help me.

As far as I know the rearends are the same width. And I can't imagine any reason why they would be different. There are different widths in the dually rear axles, cab & chassis trucks had narrower axles than dually pickups, but I'm assuming your talking about single rear wheel. Not sure exactly how many years you have available to swap from, but I'm sure it's a lot. Just need to make sure you can match up the gears.

I would also like to point out that 2wd are 5-lugs while your 4x4 is 6-lug, so even if you pull the axle from a 2wd, you'll still need the axle shafts out of a 4x4.

14b ff don't come in 5 or 6 bolt patterns, they are only 8 bolts, and theres no difference between 2 and 4 wheel drive bolt patterns.

The width of the axle is all that concerns me. I had a feeling they are the same but just wanted to know for sure before I bought an axle or parts truck, Because I can get a 2wd truck cheap here, but people around here think 4x4's are worth a first born.

14bolt is the same for 4wd or 2wd and is gonna be 8 lug I dont believe they do a 5 or 6lug.

The shock mounts are closer together on one ton trucks FYI.

On duallys the shock mount would be closer but I don't believe they are on single wheel 1tons.

14 bolt sf axles were 6 lug

14 bolt ff axles were all 8 lug

You could get a 14b sf in a 5 bolt pattern. They came in the 454 SS Trucks.

I can't remember, but the f44 rpo 1500 trucks had a 14b sf, but can't remember if they were 5 or 6 lug wheels.

I put a 2wd 14ff in an old 84 3/4 ton I built up, only difference was the shock mounts. I think they are shorter or in a different location. They bolted up, but the tube would hit the axle, I just put a small dent in it.

Cool thanx. Are the shock mounts still the same width apart. It's just the location on the shaft?

OK, width is the same between 2wd and 4x4, just the 2wd shock mounts hang a little lower. However, ALL 1tons have shock mounts and spring perches in a different location, whether they are single wheel or dually.

ok so they'll work, I just need to either re-gear or find matching gears, and possible relocate the pertchs if they won't work

If you have the whole truck to get parts from, swipe the spring hangers and shock mounts from the 1-ton truck, then you can bolt everything in without worrying about careful measuring and welding.
