I had a similar problem with my 87. Changed the TPS and it didn't fix it. Turns out the EGR valve was the problem, but I recommend getting a GM EGR valve. They are still available through the dealer and aren't that much more expensive than aftermarket. It solved my problem and was an easy plug and play.

It sounds like a sticky EGR to me . I would definitely go to the GM dealer to get a new EGR valve. Every aftermarket EGR I have seen has been junk. GM for me on that particular part every time .

i would agree with the EGR valve, it sounds like it is not closing all the way.

We have an account with the dealership in our town and the ones I have bought have been around $80.
