Carrier Support Bearing...
I had my carrier bearing replaced on my 72 short bed. The drive shaft repair shop mounted the carrier bearing to the rear smaller axle. It was suppose to be mounted to the front axle correct?

Re: Carrier Support Bearing...
the carrier bearing (center support bearing) mounts to the driveshaft that goes into the trans, the first piece of a 2 piece driveline. The second shaft goes from carrier bearing to the rear end. I can't imagine a swb 4x4 having a 2 piece driveline in the rear, and no way it would have a 2 piece driveline in the front.

Re: Carrier Support Bearing...
You shouldn't have a carrier bearing on either drivelines on a 4x4 long bed or short. WES

Re: Carrier Support Bearing...
most 2wd (C 10) swb have a 2 piece driveline. It's not possible to mount the carrier bearing to the wrong shaft without some welding, it is possible to put the trans yoke on the rear shaft if you're not paying any attention to what you're doing.
I'm still unclear as to what the op is really talking about. Front and rear axle, carrier bearing on an axle, and driveshaft shop. I just assume he is talking about a 2 piece driveshaft not being assembled properly on a swb c10, and we all know what ASSuME-ing does. if they did put the trans yoke on the rear shaft it I'll have to be put on the front shaft and realaned as an assembly to be properly fixed. |
Re: Carrier Support Bearing...
Thanks guys! The drive shaft shop had mounted the yoke in the wrong place. I was asking if the smaller drive shaft attaches in the rear. After I returned to the DS Shop the tech figured out his mistake. BTW my truck is only a 2WD not a 4WD (4x4) sorry about the confusion. On my 2 piece drive shaft I have a smaller circumference drive shaft and a larger circumference connected by a U-joint. I was just trying to see (prior to the mistake being caught) if the larger plugged into the transmission or if the smaller plugged into the transmission. After the tech fixed his mistake I concluded that the smaller end connects into the transmission and the larger end connects up to the rear end. I was just trying to confirm that I didn't screw anything up. Thanks again to all who gave me input...
