Completely agree with Geezer#99... I bought my SMI (sean murphy induction) carburetor about 4 months ago and I love everything about it. Sean is the master of anything carbureted. I bolted it on, adjusted the idle screws, and it's the smoothest fuel delivery I have ever experienced short of fuel injection. My power improved, my throttle response is instant, and my MPGs improved a lot.

My advice is buy an SMI STAGE 2 Rochester Quadrajet. You can get it for the price of the Stage 1 Q-Jet if you ask for a discount. The SMI carburetors are expensive, but they're on par with what you'll find in Jegs or Summit. Spend the money and put caburetor related issues behind you for a long time.

I will add that my friend bought a rebuilt Q-Jet from O'Reilly's 5+ years ago and he has been very happy. Sean Murphy will jet and needle a Q-Jet for your specific application, O'Reilly's Q-Jets are a bit of a crap shoot. The rebuild quality is good though and you have a store front to handle warranty issues should they arrise. You also stand to save some money.
