Trailer Wiring
Getting ready to put hitch receiver on and then wire it up. Am I just going to splice in the wiring to the unit through turn signals and then brakes, or is this going to be a bit more? Wiring experience for me would be a 3 out of 10.
Thanks, '70GMCStep |

Standard trailer wiring is done at the rear harness. Hopkins (Hoppy) makes a simple 4-Wire Flat Universal Kit (common bulb turn signals) part# 46105 that should work for you. Pick it up at any auto parts or camping supply store. A plug in type is available part #41105 listed for 68-84 Chevy/GMC

Re: Trailer Wiring
After you get it all hooked up make sure you hook up the white wire to the truck frame and clean the contact area. Do the same on the trailer or everything will go bonkers or not work. you may need to make sure the trailer ball is not completely greased up. (it grounds through the ball and hitch)

Re: Trailer Wiring
If you dont use an adapter like Tommy says you hook the green wire to the right turn wire. Hook the yellow wire to the left turn wire. Hook the brown to the tail lights. If the turn lights are hooked up the stop lights will work too. Hook the white wire to ground like Keith says.
