Either use the factory metal brackets & cut, get a place (or you can do it yourself) to make custom boxes, or try and find the kits they made years ago (impossible!).

Cut the dash??? WTF?????? What are you talking about?

Your second paragraph isn't even ENGLISH - please restate that so we can understand!

as far as cutting the factory radio slot. It's not too hard to cut it and make it look clean when it's all installed with the new unit. just make sure you measure your cut-out properly before you start cutting, otherwise you'll have an ugly install with no way to fix it.

as far as the power windows and the speakers installation, I have the same problem, so I'm looking for ideas as well.

OH! I'm stupid - you were talking about the head unit. They do make kick panels that you can put speakers in. They are from Q-logic. They cost $150 for a set. You can put a 5 1/4" and a tweeter in there. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=1&cc=01&avf=Y

I finally, after a year of scouring junkyards, found a set of 6X9 mounts. I don't have them mounted yet, but I can take pics of them if you want to see what they look like.

That means yes - we want pictures. :) You'll have to excuse me, I get a little excited sometimes.

78' Silverado 04-06-2003 03:37 AM

Yeah i am getting some 6x9s soon to replace my 6x8s. I just got done building my custom sub/amp/6x9 box for behind my truck. Holds one 200w amp in the middle molded in with a Plexe-Glass covering, to inclosed FG 12's subs, then on each side will be 2 new Pioneer 3-way 6x9s, following 2 new 6 1/2's Poineer 2 ways, for the sides and the one replaced in the middle on the dash. All this is included, I am also going to carpet the back side so its not just metal, then carpet the box in the same material (thin) and the over stuff. Then I will re-wire all the wiring to some brand new and not the 78' wiring lol. Then....well......I will be crusin like a PIMP baby!!!

P.S. This will all take place in about 3 weeks. Pics will soon follow :P

I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. They are not factory, they are aftermarket. In the meantime, you can look at gchemist's here:

As promised, here are the pics of my 6X9 speaker corner mounts. I think they cost me $7 for the pair without speakers at a local junkyard. They are just stamped out of sheet metal, and could probably be replicate in MDF pretty easily. I tried to photograph all of the sides so you could see how it mounts if you want to try to make your own.

I only posted the first pic inline to go easy on the folks on dialup. Click on any of the other links to view the other sides.

Slonaker 04-08-2003 10:18 AM

Yeah, you wouldn't think it would be that hard to find something so simple.

Now if I can just get the truck running again, so I can try them out...
