Before and after frame pics
 

Seeing how there have been a few before and after pics I thought I would share mine. Not bad for a truck that plowed for the last 12 years in New England. Cleaned up pretty good!

Were the tanks black originally? The reason I ask is mine are a natural silver steel color.

Wow that's amazing that much factory paint was still on the frame!

Well I must admit that's it's not factory. Though it is a before and after pic. I had some help to keep it this way. I had redone the frame about 13 years ago and painted it with real paint. Then I oiled it down few times a year and also used LPS 3 as well. I also have this problem of greasing the heck out of stuff. So all I had to do was to take some WD 40 and spray it on to take the film off.

The gas tank is not original. When I replaced it I painted it. Up here, if it's not painted it will rust in months.

I am in the process of redoing the truck again, for the 3rd time. This time it's the last. I have the cab all done and ready to go on. Now I'm just cleaning up the frame. Next I will pull the motor and get it ready for a big block.

Why the rusting so bad there? Road salt or moisture in the air? In that respect we are pretty lucky in Wyoming with it being so dry.

I believe the original tanks are galvanized. Would that eventually rust there as well?

Yes on the road salt and moisture in the air. We also use calcium chloride on the roads as well. Really speeds up the rust factor. We often joke about how the auto manufactures should have an option of rust. You should be able buy your vehicle with rust on it already because it's just going to rust out in a few short years. Yes most of the country is better off than we are. It is very challenging when restoring vehicles up here. That's why I buy all my parts new GM or from out west somewhere. I am so sick and tired of fixing rust. It's painful to buy a new truck because it will be junk in no time. That's why this is the last time on redoing this truck.
