Overflow tank?

Where is the correct location for a coolant recovery tank on a 69 c10{if it had 1?}.Got a aftermarket 1 but does not seem to really fit anywhere practical.

Re: Overflow tank?

Didn't have one from the factory. Some people put them on the radiator core support and others put them on the opposite fender from the window washer bottle.

i may be wrong but ....front portion of the passenger wheel well 'tub'... sits right behind the battery...

Re: Overflow tank?

Some pictures of peoples would be good as I've just bought one from summit racing and haven't got a clue where to mount it, the current bottle (old coolant bottle!) is tucked in the passenger fender

Re: Overflow tank?

Various on the truck but it's an option from what I've seen. Not mandatory on any of them. Typically it bolts to either the driver's front fender or passenger side front area. Just after the battery beside the wheel well. I've found them on both sides from the factory.

It would be a lot easier to have it near the cap, on the passenger's side, so you wouldn't have to run the hose across the top of the radiator.
Here are a few that I've saved:

I got a universal one from NAPA and it fit between the battery and the pass. fender (just barely).

Re: Overflow tank?

The optional/dealer installed tank, was typically mounted to the radiator support on the driver's side, just about where a second battery tray would mount. Trevor

i've only seen proof of one factory one, and it was a gov truck. All the rest were dealer installed, or more likely, parts store stuff. You can still find them that look much like the dealer parts pieces.

Two options on my GMC. The second pic is what I have right now. Spent $10 at Lowes on it.

I was wondering if anyone had put theres the front side of the core support as I was thinking about mounting mine there, Looks like a goer, mines a black Summit 1 quart job so won't be too obvious from the grille.

Here is a picture of the dealer installed GM tank. It is identical to the version Andy mentioned on the government truck. I bought this one several years ago it was NOS sealed in the GM box. It mounts on the core support just above the horn as trevor stated in about the same location as the aux. battery tray. I also included some pictures of the truck just because :)

I to have a nos set up and the instruction sheet shows it goes right where 71 super has his.

Bought one from summit. Saw another post that someone used a metal water bottle, another that they used one of the new aluminum beer pints with the screw on lid. Here is some pictures of my installation. Mounted off the factory battery bracket.

I didn't know these were so rare lol Most my trucks have had one hahaha

Re: Overflow tank?

The GM version is pretty hard to find. The others pictured are parts store units and available almost every where. The GM unit is pretty big and has a dedicated bracket/holder to support on all sides as well as the bottom.

Re: Overflow tank?

The one I bought is from LMC,it will not fit on the overflow side of the radiator. It will have to go on the drivers side and route hose.It seems rather oversize?

I got a few of the GM ones so they aren't rare to me :metal: Never seen any other kind on any of the trucks I've bought. And to think I was just going to throw them out cause I figured everybody had one

Original 71 I got the tank off of ebay a couple of years ago. Let me look back through some photos and see if I have more of the tank.

Re: Overflow tank?

The one i was just overcharged for($28) by LMC is a pc of Taiwan crap. Only one of the holes lined up and the cap wont snap on. Even the plastic is paper thin unlike the originals. Supposed to be a factory replacement for my 75 C10. The last one i bought from Classic Ind. was better made. I think this is the last one i will buy. Next time i will make something. Poor quality products fall by the wayside.

Re: Overflow tank?

Don't have a pic of it but I installed mine on the passenger side just aft of the battery. Used a w/s washer tank and bracket. Looks stock and matches the factory washer tank on the driver's side. Just don't get confused and put anti-freeze in the driver's side tank.

I used a washer fluid bottle and mounted mine next to the battery. It works and looks stock to those who don't know.
