Spid ce20903

my SPID says CE20903 and as far as I can tell this website How to Identify, Select and Restore Chevrolet ... on page 177 says this code is for an 67 Chassis & Cab not an 72 fleetside 8ft which i find on page 183 as code CS20934

Can anyone clarify?

That number is the model designation. Found this picture in your build:
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/t.../Photo0020.jpg

If you follow your link, you'll see that all C20 Cab and Chassis from 67-72 use that Model Designation.

Looking at your VIN: CCE232J170359

And using LMC's Catalog Decoder: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=9

We Get:

C - Chevrolet
C - 2 Wheel Drive
E - 8 Cyl
2 - 3/4 ton
3 - Cab & Chassis (Not listed on LMC, Found Elsewhere)
2- 1972
J - Janesville
170359 - Vehicle Number

Re: Spid ce20903

so does this mean originally my truck had no bed?
why does the website above list 72 as CS20903 not CE20903

Re: Spid ce20903

Yes, it means it probably had no bed on it originally. It could have also had it put on at the dealer if it didn't sell right away.

As for the Model number, S for the second place means 6 cyl and E means V8

See this link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/Chevyear.html

if you look down at the bottom you can see what the body type is. In your case, it's an 03, which is a Cab only. )4 is Step Side, and 34 is Fleet Side.
