Power steering upgrade for 68 straight six
My dad is the original owner of a 1968 GMC stepside with a straight six, three-on-the-tree. He's getting older, and commented that he wished he had power steering.
Can anyone describe what parts I'll need to make the swap? What year and makes of truck have parts I can scavenge at the junkyard? Does anybody have a setup they would like to sell? Thanks, Bob |
not quite sure on what years of cars/trucks. I do know that they are hard to come by! But don't just look in the trucks because I do know that the older cars with stright 6's had the same setup! Good luck!

Don't forget about the later model trucks. I would think it would be easier to find a 73-87 6cyl w/pwr steering so look for these as well.

later model trucks are a good start just make sure that you dont get the parts off a truck that has the integral head but the power steering box will work up to 80 i think other than that you will need special fittings so power steering box from 67-80 chevy and gmc trucks will work and any gm car with the straight 6 motor up to 78 or so (because somewhere in there they went to the integral head)will work for the power steering bracketsand pump hgope this helps
------------------ 68 chevy 2wd long step lowered 5"& 5" 454 auto 67 chevy 3/4 4x4 gonna be lifted 6" hopfully 454 auto od soon 83 gmc suburban 350 od auto 3 in body lift and yes everything still works lol soon to have 6 in suspension and 35s or 36s already has 33 since it was stock also a 79 camaro berlinetta with a 350 4 speed in primer |
