Has anyone replaced wood bed with aluminum?
I've done a couple searches, maybe I'm just missing it.
I'm wondering if anyone has done this, the pros and cons of it. I've had my truck for a couple years. It was restored by prior owner, pretty nice job. He got around to everything but the bed. It spends about 80% of it's time in the garage, only because my wife and I each have daily drivers. I do use it to put grass/leaves/branches etc. in and take to the landfill. I'm not inclined to put a nice, refinished bed in, only to toss debris on top of it. However, the current bed, compared to the rest of the truck, looks like a wart on a nose. So, I was thinking about replacing it with aluminum diamond plate. Anybody been there, done this? |

Re: Has anyone replaced wood bed with aluminum?
I put a steel floor into a 1981 F150 a few years ago.
It worked well, I used exterior silicon sealant on the wall seems, and some tar paper at a couple of places under the bed. With the silicon, I didn't even have to use any bolts, rivets, or welds. I had the truck for about 2 1/2 yrs before selling it. |

I haven't priced the Diamond plate yet. It comes in various thicknesses, but I was told it would be pretty pricey.

Yeah...I wanted to put an Aluminum diamond plate bed on my step side, but it was real expensive...so I used steel diamond plate.
