spun a rod

I spun a rod on my 97 350 vortec. I have a 89 350 tbi with 40000 miles on it ,can I take my vortec heads and intake, put them on the 89 block? Don't know if this will work. Any info would be much appreciated, Thanks

First off welcome to our forums.
There are some differences between the two engines. The 97 will be a roller and the 89 not. The 97 also has a crank position sensor on the front and the 89 does not. There may also be more differences. Someone else will chime in with some info I'm sure.

some of the 88 or for that matter 87 and up or so are fully machined for roller setups, some have them even.

True on the CPS, and it'd be a pain in the butt to make it work I bet, you'd need the crank reluctor wheel on the crank which goes inside the oil pan I think and then the sensor, which would be a complete tear down and rebuild.

Might be easier to get a custom tune, or convert to tbi? Thing is if you went tbi the vortec heads are better, and to make them work you need the pricey gm vortec tbi intake, or buy an alum. 4 bbl carb intake and an adapter plate and make it work. Still need a custom tune though.

Might be easier to just swap out the rods and such, but with that much work and cost, might as well rebuild the vortec one, or find another vortec block.

If it spun the rod and the crank are junk most likely.

Thanks guys for the info, this project sounds like a can of worms I don't want to open. I ordered a GM rebuild long block today, price was'nt bad $1500.00 should be here in 4 or 5 days.

I hope it's a vortec one to match.
