I wanna see your woody
Hi,
This is my first post here. I recently picked up a '68 LWB C20 pickup. I have a ton of questions and my search has come up fruitless. My biggest question at this time is a metal to wood floor conversion. I'm sure it's been talked about but I can't find much information on it. What I'm looking for at this time is pictures of your wood floor and if there are pictures of your floor being installed that would be even better yet. To give you an idea of what I'm starting with I've included some pictures of the truck that I'm planning to resurrect. Thanks, Mike http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...V/CIMG2926.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...V/CIMG2942.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...V/CIMG2940.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...V/CIMG2938.jpg |

BTW.......Welcome to the board. This is a really fun place to hang out and just be prepared because well like to have fun a lot of the time! You must have a sense of humor with a title like that. Almost as funny as the ole "Hey.....there is fluid running out of my rear end!!!!". lol

A little history on the truck. It was my uncle's daily driver for quite a few years. Something happened to the engine and he pulled it out of the truck to replace it and he never got around to putting a replacement in it before he passed away a couple of years ago. It sat on a gravel driveway for at least 10 years so the undercarriage is pretty rusty but the body is solid and there's almost no body filler on it. I asked my aunt what she planned on doing with it and she hadn't decided. A year later she says that I can have it if I want it. A buddy of mine has access to a tow a truck and he picked it up for me for gas money and a case of beer. I'm going to go back to my aunt's to pick up the engines, and all of the misc parts that are laying around. All in all, not a bad truck for $40, eh? |

"Woody" is a term to describe wood parts on a metal vehicle or something that if it lasts more than 4 hrs......you need to go see your doctor! lol |
Re: I wanna see your woody
WELCOME!!!! For more info on "Woody's" check out the builds forum. There have been quite a few done and some have been well written up.Besides that there is a ton of other info in every thread.
Another noteable "Woody" topic would have to do with our GMC Junkie, but alas I didn't get in on the deal before it went away.Getyer minds outta the gutter guys. You would have to have been here a long time to remember that, and it ain't dirty like y'alls minds. |

Re: I wanna see your woody
From a former St. Paulite welcome to this forum. I grew up in the Como Park neighborhood and still have lots of friends and relatives down there.
If you really want a wood floor bed you'll probably want to look for a complete bed. Then if you're thinking show truck you'll want to figure out what you want for wood. Then if you search you can find a link to how to route the boards to make them work with a factory wood bed. If you just want a wood bed that won't be for show there are suppliers on this forum that will sell you a kit all ready to go. But I still think you want to find a factory wood bed as a starting point. I'm partial to the steel floor because I still use my truck as a truck. What part of St. Paul do you call home? |

Hi mrein3, I grew up in the Hugo/WBL/Stillwater area and I currently live down in Cottage Grove. As far as the bed goes, like you I will be using my truck as a truck. Right now my bed has holes rusted in the floor and it needs to be replaced. I've always like the look of the wood floors, I love woodworking and I have no problem refinishing or replacing wood if it gets too beat up. My only problem is getting an idea of what's all involved in the swap from metal to wood. I'll check out the suppliers on the forum here to see what they offer. Thanks, Mike |
