questions for you 60-66 guru's
saw a truck in a wrecking yard today and i'm curious about a couple things it had on it. number one, on each fender were "custom camper" badges like 67-68 trucks have. number two, it had seatbelts that had a date code of 1966. were seatbelts an option back then ? it was a pretty well loaded up truck, chrome front and rear bumpers, chrome grille, power brakes and power steering, dual armrests. most of the goodies were gone already but you can see enough to tell what it had. whoever took the rear bumper left three of the four brackets behind, front bumper and grille are dinged up, arm rests are in the floor, p-s and p-b are gone. seatbelts do not have the bowtie on the buckle like 67's but the tag on them says GM with the 1966 date. tailgate was still on it and it's very nice. is any of this stuff worth grabbing or should i let it get smashed ?

Re: questions for you 60-66 guru's
i would get what you can off it! if the tailgates nice and straight you can get $100 or more easy for that alone!! armrest it depends on the conition but if its daily driver quality i would grab them, if it can make you money i would grab it period!!

I believe seatbelts were required in '66 along with back-up lites.

custom camper options
I think the feds required seat belts by the 1968ish model year(some bill about... auto/highway act of 1968 or something.. named after year it went into effect)? also backing lights... but GM decided to just start adding them anyway... for practice or marketing? not sure why. -W |
Re: questions for you 60-66 guru's
thanks for all the info everyone. i'll try getting the gate, belts and camper emblems and will check the other stuff. if it was 67-72 parts, i know what to grab but the earlier stuff i know nothing about.

Re: questions for you 60-66 guru's
seatbelts in trucks were not mandated until 1968 but they were options since the 1950's
|
Re: questions for you 60-66 guru's
Seat belts were standard in '66. My plain-jane truck has 'em, nothing listed on the SPID sheet.

standard in '66, not mandated by our Beloved leaders in DC until '68 model year.

Hey Jerry is this the truck you saw? The tailgate is better than any of the three I have.

Rich,
that's the one. did you get the gate ? i was planning to go back today but if you already grabbed it, it'll save me a trip. i haven't been there in a while so i thought i'd take a look yesterday afternoon. last time i was out there they had a bunch of 67-72s but this time only a few and they were picked over pretty bad. |

it's still there, it had a few minor dings in it but they wouldn't drop the price so i left it. i did pull the custom camper badges off the fenders. it still has the oem auto trans linkage in it too, someone butchered the column inside the cab but left the linkage under the hood down to the trans.
