Pro Street?
 

What would you call Pro Street? We have a car show coming up, and the truck class has way to many different trucks; 4x4, low rider, firetruck...etc. They are having a Pro Street class, but not sure if I really qualify as Pro Street. What do you guys think?

My opinion really don't matter,, what the judges opinion is ... who knows.

In the olden days ProStreet meant anything with big pfhat tires all around. I built my 66 originally with 15x15 Convo Pros and 33x22.50-15s on the rear, and 8.5x15's with a 9.25" wide radial on the front (MAN that pig was a bear to drive with the manual steering box!!) ooops,, back on topic.. Went to a show and got stuffed in "Street Rod" class http://small-block-chevy.com/images/smiles/WTF.gif

The folks putting on the show will dictate the class you fit in, in 'their' show. Be sure and talk with the officials so some judge doesn't blow you off because he don't think your in the 'right' class

what engine do you have? if you got a 350 i would say dont put it in the pro street class but if you got a 454 or bigger i would say go for it.

The rear meats are 29x15.50-15 and the engine is a 454

Right.. I know a lot of prostreet vehicles running a smallblock and putting it down..

IMO, If the SB is built bad enough to lite up wide hides all is well. But fender wells full of BB add to the drool factor.....

Pro Street is a style of street-legal custom car, usually built for drag racing. Cars of this type typically feature a narrowed rear axle coupled with oversized rear wheels for maximum grip, and large capacity V8 engines, often supercharged.

straight from wikipedia! well im just sayin my pickups got a 350 and if i just put some big tires on it i wouldnt consider it pro street. but seeing as hes got a 454 i would consider that as a pro street. sorry its just that when i think of pro street i think of big tires and lots of HP. and the judges might be thinking of the same

You know how many 454's my little 347 small block has driven around?? This is a simple case where size aint everything!!

Tossing in my 2¢. Nice looking truck and I think you could fit in the prostreet class. But, how do you think you would do in that class? Could you go heads up against the area cars and trucks that would also be in this class? Or would you do better in say, if they are offered, custom or hot rod class? Trophys are nice, but I show just to show. I enjoy hearing everyone's opinions on my truck, good or bad. Our area has about a dozen prostreeters but doesn't offer that class in our shows. In my case it's usually a choice between custom, hot rod, or '73 to present. Knowing our area rides, I can't compete against the custom ones. And when custom isn't offered, they are all in the '73 to present. So hot rod is the way to go. I know sometimes they will place you where they think you should be, but if you are given the option, size up your opponents and choose your class accordingly.

Especially the Small Block - Big Cubic Inch.

As far as I know this is the current record. I maybe wrong. Andy Jensen's race team consists of a 1964 Corvette, powered by a single turbo-charged Chevy small block. These high tech, high horsepower cars are becoming very popular so they built one to figure out how to make them work. 2004 was thier first year with this car. It ran a best e.t. of 6.48 at 215 m.p.h., and they weren’t even close with the tune-up. They have learned a great deal about these types of engines in thier first year, and expect more consistent performances in the mid 6.30′s at 220 m.p.h. in 2005. In 2009 they pulled out a 6.25 @ 229mph, and that was just testing.

Pro Street is just a look. Doesnt even have to be fast.

Rick Dobbertin helped to sky rocket the whole pro street craze in the 80s. First with his nova, then followed by his iconic Pontiac J2000.

Goofy? Yes. Consistent bracket racing car with unrivaled reliability? Yes. It was done just for looks, and there were a few people back during the real Pro Street days that did this just for the look, while having a consistent bracket car.
Pro Street itself is nothing more than a look.

ok guys i should have specified at first....STOCK 350. yes if it had a modified 350 i would consider it prostreet. but not a stock 350. thats the point i was trying to make.

Pro Street is a term that sets a vehicle apart from standard issue modified street cars.
What is it that makes that difference? The street version of a "Pro Stock" is what it means.
I have been building fat tired "Pro Street" rides since the mid 70's and until recently, the last ten years about, pro street meant tubbed, mini tubbed and a HIGHLY modified rear diff. and suspension. If all you can stuff under the rear of the ride is slightly over-sized wheels/tires then it ain't a "Pro Street". Motor size means nothing.
Like my 63 GMC with 19 inch wide Mickeys out back... a tried and true PROSTREET.
