Can you mod the stock ebrake to work when you slam a 1955-59?

I notched the frame and cross member on my 1959 and now the drive line rubs on the ebrake thingy. Has anyone documented a mod to retain the the stock ebrake on a lowered truck?

Thanks for any ideas

Dave

You could remake the cross bar and put a higher bend in it to raise it up about an inch. That should get it out of the way. The other option is to use a lokar setup and get it out of that area entirely.

Or you could bend the crossbar vertically then back horizontal up to get some clearance. Or make a new mount for the cross bar that goes on top of the frame.

Or you could bend the crossbar vertically then back horizontal up to get some clearance. Or move the bar circled in red below up to the top of the crossmember. On my truck it looks like there is enough room. Cable from the front would move to the top too.

Cool thanks for the help. I will post progress when I have time to modify it, could be a few months before I get to it.

Thanks

Dave

I need a quick fix so I can hall stuff to billetproof this weekend for the swap meet so this is what I came up with. You can see the line on the paper that is the original shape of the cross bar and the new shape gives me a good amount of additional clearance. I think I am just going to take a nice size notch out of the cross member as it does not need to be that strong (I hope). Do you think it will work?

On lowered trucks on this site I have seen that member notched in an arch for drive line clearance with a piece of 1/4 - 3/16" stock welded in the bottom to the remaining piece for reinforcement. It does not hold any vertical weight just cross braces the frame laterally.
