engine need ideas and help.

Ok here goes hope everyone can help me out. My engine runs rough at a idle it stumbles on its self it will miss then pick back up. i have a edelbrock performer manifold non egr and a 600cfm edelbrock non egr carb. also every now and then my valves or rockers will chatter when driving but it doesnt happen all the time the truck drives pretty fine down the road seems to have good power no smoke coming out the exhaust no backfiring. what could be going on to cause this. im stummped and iritated about it.

Sounds like timing issues. What is your timing set at? The clatter may be pinging rather than valve train clatter. This would be also because of bad timing.

I have timed it a 8 degress btc and it does it every now and then with the chatter. i have also advanced it a little more and it stil does it i have tried it by ear no luck so i retimed it to 8 where it runs a little better.

The next time it chatters check your oil level. I had a 250 I-6 that everytime it got to a quart low it would start to chatter. I'd check it and everytime it was low. I refilled and it was fine after that until the next time.

On the hesitation have you checked the floats? They may be off a bit.

I checked the oil its fine thats onething i thought of first. as for the floats im not sure how to check them on the edelbrock carb.

Go here http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/eps_sect2.html and scroll down to float level. Best thing to use is a 7/16 drill bit.
