Crew cab ?
 

Ok so i have a few questions.
Well first off im wanting to build a crew cab but, if i were to want a short bed crew cab single rear wheel what would be the easiest way to do it.

I would guess shortening a crew cab frame but could i start with an 8ft bed chevy frame if so would i have to lengthen it and how much. Im having a real hard time finding decent crew cabs and was thinking mayb i could start with something different but still end with the same product.

Wow man nice CC but a little too rich for my heart im looking to build a lifted 4x4 one but still be luxurious to a point

Mine's not a short bed like you want, but I am building it much the way you describe wanting yours to be! Would think the easiest way to get what you want is shortening the frame of a long bed - which is pretty straight forward & then finding a good donor short bed assembly to bolt-on. Look forward to seeing what you do.

I had my frame shortened, I'd think this way is easier than modifying an 8" frame.

Mine is still sorta for sale.....:)

Ok i have been looking around and cant find much for crew cabs, and if i do they are mostly all 2wd.
Thats why i was wondering if it would be easier to find an 8ft bed regular cab and make it longer to compensate for a CC shortbed. Also chances are if i found a rolling chassis 8ft bed it would be 4x4 because seems to be a good many of them around just no CCs

Your Crew was a 2wd orginally right??
How hard of a swap was it and if you could do it again would you change anything or maybe just look for a 4x4 to begin with??

Im just trying to look at this from as many angles as possible before i start doing anything.

Mine was a 2wd dually. I had most the parts to make 4wd so one of the reasons I went with a 2wd. Mostly because I couldn't find a 4wd,a fair price or rotted to death. I had the entire drive train, so why spend Aall that money to take most of the parts off anyways?

4wd would be easier but more money. 2wd tends to be cheaper, cleaner and easier to find.

Ya, all i can find is 2wd duallys thats why i considered a 4x4 8ft bed regular cab frame to start with thought maybe it would be easier.

Due to the shape of the regular cab frame, and if you wanted to make the frame correct (not modify the cab) you would need to extend the regular cab long bed frame 31" under the cab then take 14" out of the behind the cab. If you are set on using a regular cab frame it would be easier to use a regular cab short bed and just extend the frame 31" under the cab and find some mid cab mounts from a crew or Burb. The only problem you have then is it will be a half ton frame. Honestly I think it would be much easier to get a 2wd CCLB, shorten the frame, and convert to 4wd. I have a 2wd CCSB that is soon to be converted to a 4wd. I found a cheap K20 diesel Burb with a rotten body for my donor. It runs and drives so I have everything needed to convert.

Ok i think i will keep looking and try and find a decent CCLB to convert.
If i wanted to start with a regular cab short bed i could always walk outside and start hacking up my k10 but im not liking that idea all that much. I just thought since it seems like there is an abundance of regular cab 8ft beds around that i could start with that. I have found a few crews but most are either way past even trying to save or are priced way to high for what they are.

I think ill just keep looking and see what i can find, if i can get a real good deal on a reg cab frame that might be the direction i go but i would still love to find a decent crew and convert too 4wd since that seems like it would be the easier of the two options.

Make yah a hell of a deal on mine!!!!

It's really not that hard to convert a 2wd to 4wd. Just there is many little things that need to be addressed. This is what I'm going thru now. But in the end there won't be another truck like it.

Man would be a hell of a drive almost 5hrs one way, and i think i would rather do it myself so i can say "Ya, i built that".
