OK i need a little help here i was getting ready to mount my heads and the new felpro permatoque head gasket and i notice that the holes in the head gasket for the coolant port closest to the intake is not as large as the hole in the block .is this normal. i believe the block is was made between 1970 and 1980 the seriel number is 3970010 . i just do not want to have an overheating problem when i put this motor in my 69 c-10. take a look at the pictures and tell me what you think.

I do believe that that is normal.
What I'm curious about is do you plan to install the gaskets dry, or are you going to use something on them like copper coat?

Re: sbc head gasket help

i checked the instuctions and it mentions if it is a fiber faced gasket it is to be installed dry and if it is a metal faced gasket requires a thin even coat of sealer to be applied to the metal sides of the gasket.

I'm pretty sure that the bigger holes are there for the casting cores. The holes in the gaskets don't need to be any bigger than the holes in the heads.

Mine are the same like that and I compared my old gaskets to the new ones an there the exact same and the motor ran just fine. The only reason I took it out was to replace the clutch and decided to reseal the motor an put a one piece oil pan gasket in.
