need info
on the front stabilizer bar there are 2 brackets wit rubber bushings in them. My question is the bracket that has the rivets in it that attaches to the frame, is there any easy way to break them off so I can install a new bracket?
|
1'st- steering stabilizer or sway bar?
2'nd - Is the riveted bracket broke or are you changing out to a different style ? |
1: front sway bar.
2: it's badly bent, so I am going to pull one off a junk trk. |
Air hammer or grinder
or the ever famous and popular: smoke wrench (torch) is the frame bent ? my .02 anyway Bill |
I would heat the head of the rivets and then use an air chisel to remove them. Take a large hammer/center punch and knock the bodies out. :)

I don't have any way to heat them up and no fancy tools either.

Save yourself a lot of trouble. Buy the bracket new at the dealer. I think it is less than $15, and it will save you a lot of hammering and chiseling at the junkyard. I bought them when I put a swaybar on my truck. It was not equipped with a swaybar from the factory.
It sounds like you will have to grind or chisel the head off the rivet, then knock it out with a punch. Slonaker |
