First Haul in New Truck
3 Attachment(s)
After 2 and a Half Months of being stuck home after a major Car wreck, and being in pain, I was able to take a little trip. I made a deal for a Coke machine in June, but have been unable to travel, and didn't have a truck to go get it. My Daughter, Cassi wanted to see a Joan Jett concert in Albany, OR and since that put us more than half way to the Coke machine, I wanted to go the rest of the way to Eugene to pick it up.
We had a great trip! The concert was excellent!! Joan Jett hasn't lost it at All!!! She can still really ROCK!!!! Concert got out at 10:30 so we spent the night in Albany and got up the next day, pointing the new truck towards Eugene. But, we had a couple delays along the way. I wanted to go to Lebanon, OR to the business, "The Filling Station", and Angie wanted to hit the antique Malls in Coburg. After all that we headed to my Friend Jeff's. We hung talking for about 3 hours, including Jeff showing me his SWEET 37 Chevy panel truck project!!!! Then it was time to load the machine! Jeff's Son, Jesse, was there, and his youngest, Geordi, had shown up with a friend so, with regards to my back, they kindly loaded it up for me. We said our goodbyes and hit the road. We had a Great trip back, the truck drove great!!! Upon our return, my neighbor A.J. came over and within minutes the Coke machine was in the driveway. He and Angie had the same idea. Use a Ramp, No lifting required!!! Yesterday, I filled the truck and figured my Mileage. I was unsure what this V8 powered truck would really get, especially hauling a 500 lb Coke Machine! Well it averaged 18.5 MPG for the trip. I know that isn't great in a Prius, tree hugging world, but I was ecstatic with that good of mileage!!! After some research I discovered that the machine is an Ideal Model 70 Slider. The model 70 was made for one year only, Mid 48 to mid 49. So it is Very Rare! That puts it the same era as my Gas Pump and Lubester!!! This machine was originally Coke even thought this particular model could be labeled for multiple brands. It can dispense 8 different kinds of Pop and has a Precool area. A good first haul!!! |

Re: First Haul in New Truck
Congrats on the successful venture. As for your machine...one reason for their demise may be the fact that folks would pop the caps and use a straw to polish off the contents w/o any benefit of sinking a nickel in the cash box. Reckon that's theft, but who was watching? Be interested to see it when you have it redone.
