lift question

I have a 72 blazer that has 33x12.5x15 tires with 10" wheels. It's stock heigth and the tires rub. I have been looking around at lifts and I don't want to use a 4" because I think it looks like to much lift for 33's and a 2" may not be enough. Here's my question. Can you take a leaf out of the 4" spring pack to drop it an inch ? The guy at the 4x4 shop suggested this. Has anyone done this before ?

You could put a 2" all spring lift on it, and then if it needed another inch you could put a zero rate add a leaf, or even a 1" body lift. To me, that would be more predictable than removing a spring from a pack.

I agree. I don't believe removing a leaf from a lift kit necessarily lowers it any more than the thickness of the spring. The weight may take it down a it with one less leaf but no guarantee how much. Lift springs are designed to be used just as they are made,IMO. If you want something different, then buy something different or take a trip to the spring shop for exactly what you need. Doesn't Tuff Country offer a 3" lift or 2-3"?

Ya x2 I totally agree with this as well. Or do down and see what it would cost to get a 3" lift made at a spring shop if you really want it then go from there. A 2" suspension and 1" body would get you there as well don't know it you want to body lift it though.

Re: lift question

Thx for the help . I called rough country and the rep told me that I could take a leaf out and it would lower it about a 1" with out affecting the ride. I have contacted the local spring shops and they want over a grand to do the springs. Tough Country offers a 2" lift but not a 3". The Rough Country price is hard to beat at $345 including shocks. I'm not sure what to do. If I go with a 4" I have to use a steering arm but if I do a 2" then I don't. Will I need one if I go 3" ?

Great question.... to further confuse the issue, my Skyjacker Softride ride front springs are listed as 2.5". Stock arm works just fine.... only thing I needed was longer front shocks (stock rear shocks are the right length).

You could always just leave the 4" packs together and run a 4" lift instead of 3". That extra inch really wont be that noticeable and you may want bigger tires eventually anyways . Seems like we all do.

Easiest solution.

Re: lift question

Good point. What's an inch? And...a 4" lift is what all sizing charts from lift companies recommend for 12.50/33s. I know you can get by lower, but that's what they suggest. When I said visit a spring shop I meant have your existing springs arched and a new leaf added. Around here that runs around $400. The Rough country price is what it was in the '70s w/o shocks,as I recall. Pretty amazing. But,then again,so is the technology. I'd hope taking out a leaf would soften the ride. It seems it would have to if it lowers the truck 1" by removing 3/8". That to me says the springs are softer if he weight brings it down more than what was removed. And,from what guys say who run them, that's a good thing.
On the steering arm, they are recommended at 4" so 3" should be fine w/o.
