Engine temp guage trouble.

i noticed the other day that my engine temp guage isnt showing any temperature rise. i still have hot air coming through when i turn the heater on. its an aftermarket guage. what could be some possible problems with it not showing any temperature rise?

bad connection at the guage or a bad sender unit
