Re: bellhousing installation
I put a clutch in my 70 this past May. Had to take the bellhousing off. I put a jack under the engine and raised it just enough to relieve pressure on the bellhousing so I could remove it. I put it back on after installing the clutch, went back on pretty good. I bolted it back to the engine, then started one crossmember bolt, left it loose had to take a pry bar to the other side and move it a little to start the other bolt. After that it all fell right into place. Did you loosen the motor mounts before or after you tried bolting it back up? Maybe the engine shifted to one side or the other. Try bolting the bellhousing to the back of the engine first, then lift the engine a little and see if you can start one of the crossmember bolts (you might have to use a pry bar and move engine a bit if it doesn't line up at first), then take pry bar and try lining up the other hole on crossmember. That's about all I know to tell you. Hope this helps and good luck.
