origional 16.5 3/4 steel rim?
I've got a 72" GMC 3/4 Custom Camper with the origional 16.5 , 8-lug, 8" wide rims and were all of the origional 3/4 16.5 rims 8" wide? Are all 16.5 3/4 rims the same? (I don't have the split rims). Thank you everyone. Dave

re: rims
I've got a 72 3/4 and the rims i have are just plain 8 lug, nothing special. I heard that some people put centre caps in. I've been looking for tires, and haven't had any luck. Seems like 16 inch are more common. Let me know if you find some.

go for 16 inch rims, 16.5's are a pain to get tires, the tires always cost way more if you do find them.

Jacuesdean , can you please measure the width of your 16.5 rims and tell me how wide they are? My tires are new ,so I'd like to keep the stock rim for now ,so my stock hub caps will fit. I just need to know how wide the stock 16.5 rims are. Thank you. Dave

pretty sure they came in 6, 8, and 9.75 inches wide... honestly if i could find some of the 9.75 wide ones i would probably put em on my 4x4

I have a 16.5 rim and ORIGINAL TIRE (all rotted out) that was the spare tire for my 72. It's 9.75 wide.

I have 16.5" rims on my truck.
http://www.deantires.com/ltsuv.asp?id=125 Thats the type of tires I have on my truck right now and they are really good. They have survived 2 cross country road trips and my crazy burn outs of 100 feet accross parking lots great. They were bought new in August 2002. HotRod |
The one's I took off my CC with 10/50
16.5 tires were 9.75 wide. :flag: :bowtie: :canada: |
Jacuesdean, check with your local CO-OP, Dad's got a 67 K-20 with 16.5's that are 6" wide and he got new tires from co-op. All he could get was bias plys and they were expensive, but they were available.

Here is a radial 9.50x16.5 tire I use and recommend. Not priced to badly either. Best price I've seen on the net is like $77.00 but that was in Chicago.
Here is a link for Cavalier All Season King: http://www.etires.com/showSizes.jsp?...LT&group=ASKNG |

My C30 has base 16.5X6.75 wheels with 9.50X16.5 load range D.
Most trucks came with 6.75 wheels in 16.5", 8.25' and 9" were optional and after market. Wheel width if I am not mistaken is measured on the inside Bead. The 8.25" were used for 10X16.5 in 3/4 ton as they had less carring capacity than the 9.50X16.5 and the 9" wheels were aftermarket for the 12.50X16.5 tires. A lot of trucks came with 16" rims and 16" split rims. Don't mix 16 and 16.5 tires on the rims. |
Think 16.5 tires are hard to find? Try finding 17.5 tires!
My '67 C20 came new with 17.5 rims! It seems all tire manufacturers have dropped this size from their lines. Finally found bias ply made by Denman at Miller Tire in Ohio http://www.millertire.com/index.html Miller Tire handles hard to find tires for truck, tractor and farm implements. //heyjoe |
