Street legal drag radials for everyday use?
 

I'm debating on whether or not I should get me a pair of MT street legal drag radials.

Would anyone recommend NOT getting them? Are they too slick to drive in rain? Good for everyday use?

It depends on your thought of every day use. Do you drive 15 miles a day or, like me, drive 50+ miles a day? I can tell you they are no fun in the rain.

I ran the BF Goodrich drag radials on my 80 Malibu, and no they are not real safe in wet conditions. They are primarily for driving to and from the track or a weekend warrior. I had another set of tires for daily use. Besides that they are way too expensive to be wearing out just driving around.

Another thing I thought of is the air pressure. To run them daily you would have to put too much psi in them. If I remember right I ran about 20-25 to the track and limped home with about 15.

I believe they only come with 2/32's of tread depth so they will be worn out in no time. Real soft rubber. Not worth it IMO.

That's what I figured... Which sucks!

I have been searching for the same size tire in just a regular radial and I can not find it.

All the street tires have a wide sectional width and a very narrow tread width.

I need a street tire that has a minimum of these dementions:
Tire Diameter 30.00 in.
Section Width 12.90 in.
Tread Width 11.90 in


Any suggestions?

I've heard a few guys at the track say that they're only good for about 3,000 miles on the street. And +2 on avoiding the rain.

My buddy has these on his swb square, he drives it often but they get soft and like to throw rocks everywhere. i wouldnt recommend them if you worry about rock chips.

..you def don't want to drive in the rain with et streets...and with the soft compound they'll wear real quick.

They will wear out in probably under 5k with even just normal street driving. You can drive them in the rain......but 30 mph tops or you will be in the ditch. Got caught in the rain last nite with mine on way to Kc. 30 mph on I70 in pouring down rain = not fun. I have a spool and which is even harder on tires and they hold up well. They hook amazing on the street too. Mickeys are the best drag radial imo.

Are there any other options out there? I would like the tread to look stock. I dont care for the flame design. I like the tread on the Sportsman S/T but they just are not wide or tall enough. I just want a wide, tall, stock looking tire! :banghead: I'm running 15x8 rallies up front and 15x10s in the back. I want my truck to appear stock with a wide tire on the back.

I switched from Mickey T Sportsmans to the Hoosier Pro street radials... night and day difference!

I wonder if I could fit a tire with a 13.5 inch section width. Man it would be tite.

I have 325/50-15 BFG drag radials on my 79 2wd Blazer. The top has been off for almost 2 years now, so I don't have a clue how they do in the rain. Mine is a weekend toy, so I have no idea how fast they wear doing DD. They do ride well.

I like them. They tow very well. Wet weather handling is great. I was interested in stopping my Jimmy from going through red light. As they wear down, they do loose some grip. I got 60,000 mile before replacing the first set. I'm on my second set. I would like to test them on my C10. I bet they would hold the ZZ4 better than the current BF tires.

I have the same on mine now, and they Suck in the Rain... I guess if you have no power they would be okay... ;)

does anybody have some real world experince for daily driving on either the mickey thompsons or bfgs other than the suck in the rain? (dont all slicks suck in the rain?) i was gonna ask this on the forum today but i found this conveinent topic already started lol

I use Mickey thompsons ET streets II on my car for when i take it on the street. Theyre great at my power level. 360rwhp
